Joints Reconstruction service was established in 1995 as a division belonging to the Department of Orthopedic Surgery.
The division specializes in:
- Primary joints replacement operations to treat osteoarthritis resulting from different pathologies.
- Revision joints arthroplasty.
- Corrective osteotomies to restore limb axis.
- Joints-preserving operations for the hip joint, such as drilling of the femoral head to restore its blood supply and rotational osteotomy operations of the femur.
Quantity and quality of the operations performed are significantly increasing every year, where around 800 major surgeries are performed yearly distributed as follows:
- 600 primary total knee and total hip arthroplasty.
- 100 revision total knee and total hip arthroplasty.
- 50 corrective osteotomies of the lower limb.
- 50 drilling surgeries of the femoral head.
About 5,000 patients are treated in the joints reconstruction clinic per year as a specialized clinic in its field, in which cases are transferred from all other royal medical services hospitals, as well as from public and private hospitals.
Future goals of the joints reconstruction service:
- To increase the number and quality of surgeries.
- The introduction of new generations of artificial joints, which improves the results of surgeries
- To introduce joints replacement surgeries into the other peripheral hospitals.
