Spinal Unit

This Unit is the first and only Spinal Unit in Jordan, responsible for the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with spinal cord injuries. It is the main referral unit in the country for patients with such injuries in addition to many referrals from neighboring countries.

The unit has 31 beds consisting of 2 acute beds and 2 air beds, the rest are for Intermediate and rehabilitation Services. It has easy access to the 

main support units, such as the physiotherapy, occupational therapy 

and radiology department.

The Unit has a staff working as a team; doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, psychologists and others, looking at the physical, emotional and social aspects, of the patient and his family .

The Unit provides life-long follow up service for its patients via the out-patient clinics and readmission for patients who develop complications and intercurrent illnesses. 

Part of the Unit activities in addition to treatment and rehabilitation of spinal cord injuries is teaching program for physicians, nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists 

Rheumatology Rehabilitation Unit

This unit is responsible for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of various acute and chronic rheumatic and musculoskeletal disorders, the unit has 5 male and five female beds.

Working in the unit is an experienced team of physicians, nurses, physical and occupational therapists dedicated for the treatment and rehabilitation of all musculoskeletal disorders including osteoporosis and sport injuries. 

 The unit provides 14 out-patient clinics per week( 10 in the morning and 4 in the  afternoon clinics ) ; priority of admission is to those who would benefit most of rehabilitation.

Also rheumatology rehabilitation out-patients clinics in the Royal Medical Services are available in the North ( Prince Rashed Hospital , Irbid ) and (Prince Hashim Hospital , Zarka ), in the south of Jordan ( Prince Ali Hospital , kerak ) and ( Prince Zaid Hospital , Tafilah ) ,Prince Hashim (Aqaba) and  in the out patient clinics (King Hussein Hospital ) and in Prince Aysheh complex Also the  services will be available soon at  king  Talal(at Al-Mafraq)and  princess Haya (Ajloon-Jerash)hospital  . 

Prosthetics and Orthotics Unit

Limb fitting started in 1968 in a small workshop run by assistant prosthetics and orthotics technicians who were originally soldiers, injured and amputated during military action. The department is now under theRehabilitation Medicine Department and run by rehabilitation physicians, Prosthetics, occupational and Physiotherapists specialized in this field.

In 2007 a new center connected to the Rehabilitation center was founded . It is about 2600 meter square , two level building , and has many out-patients clinics for all aspects of rehabilitation and workshops for upper and lower limbs prosthesis , CAD-CAM system and workshops for orthosis , small physiotherapy and occupational therapy units for only amputee patients.

The center receives patients from different specialties mainly orthopedics, plastic surgery, general surgery, rheumatology, neurosurgery, neurology, pediatrics and others , in addition to many referrals from neighbouring countries.

Also limb fitting services and workshops in the Royal Medical services are available , in the North ( Prince Rashed Hospital , Irbid ) and the south (Prince Ali Hospital , kerak ) with very good and advanced workshops. 

Electromyography Unit

It is an important unit for the Rehabilitation Department in regard

of diagnostic process of different clinical Neuro-rehabilitation problems,

also provides a valuable diagnostic help for cases referred from Rheumatology, orthopedic and plastic surgery departments in the Rehabilitation Center there  are 4 clinics over the week that studyaround  250-300 patients per month. 

Physiotherapy Department     

Departments  in all  Royal medical Services hospital . 

The services in this department covers all recognized activities in the field including , superficial and deep heat therapy (such as ultrasound , short wave ,etc) and electrotherapy  ( such as laser , Interferential Microwave etc.. ) , Hydrotherapy , manual therapy and therapeutic exercises. 

On average, 300 patients receive therapy daily, half of  them  are 

Out-patients. Continuous education and further training of recruits constitutes a major part of the department activities. 

Occupational Therapy Unit

The Occupational Therapy Unit is concerned with patients with disabilities and special needs.  Its activities are aimed at promoting and restoring psycho-social functions ,restoring work capacity , promoting social adjustment and integration and assisting patients.

in  activities of daily living and preventing  deterioration  of patients with chronic diseases .

The Unit deals  with patients with Rheumatic disorders, spinal injuries, burn, deformities, neurological, neurosurgical and orthopedic disabilities.

The Occupational therapy program includes assessment of  activities of daily living, upper and lower Limb therapy, patient education programs and provision of a variety of splints for individual needs.
