Breast Surgery

  • Breast Surgery unit was first established in 2008 where it became a comprehensive unit harboring all medical specialties related to the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant breast disease alike.
  • The unit provides its services through a multi-disciplinary team consisting of:

1. Surgical team consisting of:

  • Single Senior Consultant in General Surgery and Breast Onco-surgery.
  • Two Senior Specialists in General Surgery and Breast Onco-surgery.
  • Four Specialist in General Surgery and Breast Onco-surgery.
  • Three nurses specialized in Breast Cancer and diseases.
  • Psychological and Social worker.

2. Mammography Unit consisting of:

  • Single Consultant in Radiology specialized in Breast imaging.
  • Two Specialists specialized in Breast imaging
  • Six Breast imaging technicians.
  • The unit provides Breast Cancer early detection services (Screening Mammography)  using digital mammography imaging devices and Breast Ultrasound and MRI, as well as diagnostic FNAs taken from any suspicious abnormality in the breast using Stereotactic Biopsy technique.

3. Histopathological laboratories consisting of single consultant in pathology and two specialists in pathology specialized in Breast histological and tumors reporting.

4. Single Surgical Oncology Consultant and two specialists in onco-surgery specialized in Breast Cancer.

5. Plastic surgeon specialized in Breast reconstruction.


The nature and work load handled by Breast Surgery Unit:

  • The unit offers 3 weekly breast clinics, Sunday through Tuesday.
  • Weekly Multidisciplinary Team meetings that include all the disciplines mentioned above to discuss the cases and treatment modalities of breast cancer cases.
  • There are about 350-400 new cases of breast cancer detected, diagnosed and treated annually in the Breast Surgery Unit at King Hussein Medical City (KHMC).
  • The unit is adherent to the latest and most recent breast diagnostic approaches and treatment modalities, including breast conserving surgery and Onco-plastic Breast Surgery, as well as immediate breast reconstruction using for instance silicone implants.
  • Detect affected lymph nodes using (Sentinel Lymph Biopsy SLN Bx).
