Hand and Upper Limb Division 


The division is treating military people and their families as well as civilian people who are willing to be treated at RMS from inside and outside Jordan. The division also contributes in training military as well as civilian (Jordanian and Arabic) orthopedic residents. The division also participates in continuous medical education through active participation in national, regional and international medical conferences, meetings and workshops to keep updated in hand and upper limb surgical and instrumental advances.

  • Arthroscopic Bankart repair for recurrent shoulder dislocation
  • Rotator cuff repair with or without acromio-clavicular joint resection and subacromial decompression
  • Wrist arthroscopy and repair of triangular fibrocartilage complex tears
  • Endoscopic carpal tunnel decompression
  • Tendon transfers for radial nerve palsy
  • Wrist instability surgery including repair of ligaments, partial or total wrist arthrodesis using the newest plates in the world
  • Surgical procedures for distal radio-ulnar joint dissociation and Madelung’s deformity
  • Elongation of congenitally short metacarpal bones using mini external fixators
  • Correction of hand and upper limb joints and bones deformities
  • Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty
  • Total elbow arthroplasty
  • Hand and upper limb replantation after traumatic amputations
  • Arthroplasty of the base of the thumb using small artificial joints or by interposition of Palmaris longus tendon or part of flexor carpi radialis tendon along with suspension of the first metacarpal bone
  • Total joint replacement of metacarpophalangeal joints and proximal interphalangeal joints of the hand
  • Pollicization of the index finger for congenitally absent or hypoplastic thumb
  • Correction and fixation of clavicular pseudo-arthrosis as well as clavicular mal-united and non-united fractures
  • Open reduction and internal fixation plus vascularized bone graft for scaphoid non-united fractures
  • Capitate shortening, radial shortening or vascularized bone graft for the treatment of Kienbock’s disease (avascular necrosis of the lunate)
  • In addition to many other surgical procedures for the treatment of orthopedic upper limb pathologies and fractures including acute and chronic cases using the most updated plates, materials and instruments all over the world.


Future plans
  • Percutaneous fixation of scaphoid fractures
  • Radial head replacement for a severely comminuted radial head fracture instead of radial head excision
  • Inverse Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty (The newest technique in the world nowadays)
  • The introduction of the newest and most updated materials, instruments and surgical techniques in hand and upper limb surgery in the world
