19. Introduction of laparoscopic surgery for the first time in Jordan at the
Royal Medical Services in 1991 by performing a Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy in
King Hussein Medical City.
20. First endartrectomy for common carotid plus stenting on January 14th, 1997.
Queen Alia heart Institute was the first center to conduct such operations in
the Middle East and “Third World” countries.
21. Non invasive closure of ASD and VSD on June 18th, 1997 for the first time in
the region and fifth country in the world.
22. First Cardiopulmonary Transplantation in Jordan and the region on November
27th, 1997
23. On August 31st, 1998 for the first time in the Arab world, three cath
operations for congenital heart disease (non invasive) were done with live
broadcast via satellite to a medical conference held in Boston USA.
24. Non invasive ventricular septal defect surgery on May 4th, 1998
25. First operation of its kind was performed to treat female Urinary
Incontinence using a synthetic fabric to support the neck of the bladder and
pelvic muscles in April, 2000.
26. Laminectomy and vertebral implantation first of its kind in Jordan was done
on September 9th, 2000.
27. On September 12th, 2000, emergency operations have been conducted for spinal
rib fractures with metallic plates and screws fixation.
28. On December 1st, 2000, the introduction of intra-red navigation system and
high performance computer systems for neurosurgery specialty.
29. Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication for GERD and diaphragmatic hernia in
2002.
30. Re-implantion of amputated limb through mid-upper arm of a patient victim of
a motor vehicle accident in 2002.

transplantation in 2009.
44. For the first time in Jordan, Thoracic Surgery Unit at the Jordanian Royal
Medical Services introduced Thoracoscopic Thymectomy through a workshop for
patients with muscle weakness (Myasthenia Gravis) and thyroid tumors in 2009.
45. Obesity and Bariatric Surgery (multi-disciplinary team) clinic were
established, the first in Jordan at King Hussein Medical City (KHMC) in 2010.
46. Amputated hand re-implantation for a six years old girl in 2011.
47. First open-heart operation in the southern province at Prince Hashim Bin
Abdullah II Hospital in Aqaba in 2014.
48. Establishment of a specialized (multi-disciplinary team) Surgical Oncology
Unit in January 2014
49. Bariatric surgeries became available also in the southern province in Prince
Hashim Bin Abdullah II Hospital in Aqaba in 2015.
50. Successful resection of large liver tumor for a Syrian patient weighing 3748
kg on May 29, 2015.
