Vascular Surgery

  • Vascular Surgery Unit was the first specialized unit established in Jordan. It is dedicated to diagnosis, treatment and management of patients with vascular diseases.
  • The unit performs open vascular surgery to the arteries of the neck, chest, abdomen and upper and lower extremities. It also deals with endovascular management of the peripheral vascular system in coordination with the interventional radiology department. The vascular unit plays a vital role in kidney transplant operations and creation of arteriovenous fistulas for dialysis purposes for patients suffering from chronic renal failure.

The nature and work load handled by vascular surgery unit:

  1. The unit is capable of dealing with elective vascular surgery patients and emergencies around the clock seven days a week.
  2. Performing around 1200 cases annually of simple and complicated arteriovenous fistulas for dislysis purposes in end stage renal diseases patients. 
  3. Constitutes a part of the kidney transplant team hand in hand with urologist and nephrologists. 
  4. Provides all needed diagnostic tools for Vascular Surgery diagnosis and treatment including: duplex ultrasound, conventional angiography and CT angiography.
  5. Performing wide spectrum of surgeries for vascular diseases including: different sites and types of arterial aneurisms, arterial stenosis and occlusions, carotid body tumors and vascular injuries resulting from motor vehicle accidents.
  6. Management of venous dieses particularly varicose veins utilizing all up-to-date treatment modalities  (Steam, Laser, Radiofrequency).
  7. Regional nerve block anesthesia under ultrasound guidance has been applied as the standard of care for a variety of surgeries including (carotid end artrectomy, upper and lower extremities by-pass surgeries and varicose surgeries) 
  8. The use of epidural and nerve block anesthesia for post operative pain.
  9. The unit has a vascular laboratory capable of measuring ABPI, diagnosis of vascular diseases and post operative regular follow up.
